My Father, The Addict by Valerie Isaiah Sadoh
A staged reading.
Directed by Joy Nesbitt
My Father, The Addict is a gripping and emotionally charged play that explores the complex bond between a daughter and her estranged, addict father. When Lenny returns with a grand business idea and promises of redemption, Lola is torn between belief and betrayal, hope and history. As she risks everything to support him, she begins to confront a deeper, more terrifying truth, she's not just supporting his chaos, she's mirroring it.
Told with raw honesty, sharp dialogue, and flashes of dark humour, My Father, The Addict dives into themes of generational trauma, co-dependency, and the seductive pull of legacy. At its heart lies a powerful question: can we rewrite the stories we inherit, or are we destined to repeat them?
Heartbreaking, tender, and unflinchingly real, this is a story about breaking the cycle and finding your own reflection on the other side.
